Made to Crave: My Laundry List
Blogging through the Book: Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst
I confess – I bought the book, Made to Crave, over a year ago. I read bits and pieces of it, but never got serious because I knew it was going to send spiritual daggers right to the core of my weight battle. For me, it has been a a battle my whole adult life. So I was not especially eager to hear what God had to say about overeating or giving into cravings.
On the knowledge front – I doubt if anyone knows more than me about HOW to lose. Good grief – I used to WORK for Weight Watchers. I was a consultant after losing 35 pounds after baby number 2. I also have a BS in biology and a masters in chemistry education, so I understand the science behind burning calories.
Knowledge is not my problem…Obedience is my problem. I am educated way beyond my obedience. God will take obedience over sacrifice any day…”to obey is better than sacrifice” 1 Sam. 15:22 <TWEET THIS
I have likely tried more gizmos, programs, and exercise routines than most. Here is a little laundry list (my face is turning red as I type this):
- Weight Watchers (online and face to face meetings)
- Jenny Craig (for 2 weeks – I felt too guilty about how much $$ it cost)
- LA Weight Loss
- Dr. Vitkins
- Sensa
- Advocare (now I still love the vitamins and energy drink)
- Nordic track
- Elliptical machine
- Running/walking
- Joined various gyms
- P90X/The Firm/Billy Blanks TaeBo…and others 🙂
I am sure there are more, but you get the idea. It has been a battle my whole adult life. And to be honest, I am tired. I understand there are times when we need to pick up our swords and go do battle. But you see, my battle plans have failed over and over. It is time I let God deal with the inner me before I take up the sword again. If not, as Paul says in 1 Corinthains 9:26, I will be “beating the air”.
Are you ready to join me in this adventure? Let’s not make it a diet. If we do, we are doomed to fail. Let’s make it about desiring the things of God more than anything else on this earth!
Everytime you make a healthy choice, remember it is obedience, not sacrifice. <TWEET THIS
So I shared my laundry list…what about yours? Anything to add that wasn’t mentioned in the list above?
