God of the Angel Armies!

What a time we had at Underwood Baptist last night! Our student ministry led our worship and got everyone cranked up with Chris Tomlin’s “God of the Angel Armies”!

Our God is one God with many names! We cannot define Him, so He gives us glimpses into His nature through various names in scripture that reveal His character. One of my favorites is the LORD of Hosts – Jehovah Sabaoth (Hebrew name). It can also be translated as God of the Angel Armies.

There is no god like Jehovah. God says of Himself in Isaiah 44:6-8 (the Message)

^{God, King of Israel,  your Redeemer, God-of-the-Angel-Armies, says: “I’m first, I’m last, and everything in between.  I’m the only God there is. Who compares with me?  … Have you ever come across a God, a real God, other than me? There’s no Rock like me that I know of.”}

God of the Angel Armies is the LORD of a host of things. For example, sometimes the name is used in reference a host of heavenly bodies…

God’s Message, from the God who lights up the day with sun and     brightens the night with moon and stars, Who whips the ocean into a billowy froth, whose name is God-of-the-Angel-Armies:…Jeremiah 31:35

 God of the Angel Armies – Jehovah Sabaoth –  is often used in connection with a host of angel-warriors. Just think about that…there is a host, an army, or a gob of angel-warriors just waiting to do what God bids them.

Whew…put that in context of Chris Tomlin’s song. “I know who goes before me, I know who stands behind, the God of Angel Armies, is always by my side.”

The bottom line is this…The LORD of Hosts controls the heavenly bodies, He controls the angel-warriors – I know of NONE like Him! And it thrills my soul to no end knowing He is by my side & no weapon formed against me shall prosper!  Whom shall I fear?
