A Whale at the Manger? Why Not?

Isn’t this the sweetest little picture? This manger scene is from the innocent mind of 4 year old Maegan. She is the cutest little thing ever – daughter of one of my besties! When her mom posted this on FB a few nights ago, it just made the Christmas spirit well up in me. And I LOVE that the whale made it to the manger! And I do believe the horsey next to the whale is humbly covering his face. Too stinkin’ cute!

It is obvious that Maegan’s Mama and Daddy have been talking to her about the true meaning of Christmas! What a sweet blessing it must have been for them to see what she had put together with all her stuffed animals. It is that child-like faith that makes Christmas so special. Maegan has no problem believing that God sent His only Son to this earth via a manger to save our scrawny necks. Why is it that we adults get so hung up on the simplest of truths?

Do you know what marvels Jesus? He is marveled by simple faith. Jesus marveled at the faith of the centurion who had a sick servant. The centurion was so certain that Jesus could heal his servant, he said all Jesus needs to do is speak the word – he doesn’t even need to come to my house. In Luke 7:9 it says, “Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and turned and said to the crowd that was following Him, ‘I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.'”

I believe with all my heart that Jesus marveled at Maegan’s faith as she arranged this little re-enactment of the first Christmas. I also believe that this sweet little scene of a plastic baby doll lying in some hay with her stuffed animals all around made our Great God smile.

Think about it for moment…what is a child’s most precious treasure at that age? I would say it is their toys. That is exactly what Maegan brought to Jesus – her most precious treasures. And because her Mama and Daddy are teaching her now about the true meaning of Christmas, the transition of giving Jesus what He is really after – her heart – probably will not be far behind.

So what about it? Did you feel a little tug of child-like faith on your heart when you saw this picture? Maybe that is the tug of Jesus saying,Come to Meall who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28).

Make Jesus marvel this Christmas by putting your faith in Him! <Tweet this!
